Product Overview

Upnetic is a SaaS solution that offers entrepreneurs and startups tools to grow their business. Notable features include a learning management system, online business consultation, legal services, and a website builder.

My Role
  • UI/UX design

  • High fidelity mockups

  • Prototyping

  • User Testing

Problem

When onboarding to Upnetic, users were required to answer a series of questions before getting access to features and benefits. After becoming a member, users then had to answer another set of questions for each and every feature. As you can imagine, this was quite irritating and repetitive. Also, the information architecture of the original onboarding wizard was out of order and context and users found it confusing.

Solution

I designed this onboarding wizard to streamline the onboarding process and capture the appropriate data for all features. This allows users to provide all of their information at once and not have to start a new onboarding flow every time they use a new feature.

My primary goals were:

  • Streamline each step of the onboarding process

  • Provide information about key features with each set of questions

  • Customize the onboarding experience for users

Approach

I started by organizing the information for each feature into steps that would make up the screens for the onboarding flow.

  • My first priority was to make the experience more intuitive for the user. I wanted the layout of each page to be concise and clear to guide them through the onboarding process.

  • I also wanted to make it educational about Upnetic as a product. I put in brief feature overviews as well as inline notes to let the user know the value they were receiving with Upnetic.

User Testing

I conducted user testing in order to assess the usability of the new onboarding wizard design. Three users participated through Zoom sessions to garner live feedback. I created a script and prototype for the users. All of them felt the design was highly intuitive and appreciated the clean layout. They did mention that while they appreciated the information about Upnetic’s product, they did skim over some of the information provided as they got further in the flow. We proceeded with the original design but if I were to do more work on this, I would collaborate with product marketing to further simplify the copy on each screen.

Conclusion

The successes of the project are as follows:

  • The design successfully provided a streamlined experience to users, while also providing an elevated user interface.

  • Since going live, we have heard in support calls that users find the new onboarding to be quick and painless.

  • The new streamlined process also provides value to our internal business consultants, allowing them to provide more efficient support to our users without having to search for additional information about them.
